Shaving Technique

When It All Started It all started with early man, 18,000 BC, that he started the task or routine of removing facial hair. Sharpened rocks, bones and clamshells may very well been used to perform this human act. The Egyptians, and later Greeks & Romans, shaved their beards and heads. It is not known if this was done to show loyalty, because long hair and beards would interfere in combat, or to attract the opposite gender. King Camp Gillette did not invent the razor, but he did invent a different type of razor that used disposal/removable blades. So, since that day in 1895, man has shaved relentlessly to improve his appearance by shaving facial hair and also, shaving the top of his head.

Electric vs Blade ShavingThe electric shaver provides for a close shave, but has different results than blades. Electric shavers tend to cut the hair at a straight angle, while the blade cuts the hair with a slight angle, leaving less hair tip at the surface, resulting in a smoother feeling cut.
You may be surprised to know that the average man spends 3,350 hours of his life-time in front of the mirror or in the shower, shaving.

LIGHTING
Begin with good lighting and a fog-free mirror.

PREPARATION
Soak your skin in warm water for a minimum of 2 minutes to expand and soften the hair follicle. We recommend you shave during or immediately after you shower. Do not towel dry area to be shaved. Apply ShaveGuard PreShave Skin Treatment over wet skin in small circular motions.

CLEAN/SHARP RAZOR
Razors differ in quality and effectiveness. Use a premium cartridge style razor rather than a disposable.

TECHNIQUE
Hair grows in different directions. Shaving in the direction the hair grows will help you avoid irritation. However, carefully shaving against the grain will give you a closer shave. The combination of ShaveGuard and RazorGuard will effectively prepare you for either technique.

Always posture yourself to naturally stretch and smooth the skin in the area to be shaved. Additionally, you can further help to stretch the skin smooth by gently applying pressure above or below area to be shaved with free hand.

Always use feather light strokes applying a minimum of pressure. To avoid irritation, take a maximum 2-3 strokes over any one area. Do not pool water in sink to rinse blades. Rinsing your blade in a sink full of water is non-hygienic. Rinse blade frequently with hot running water.

Shaving is a combination of sight and feel. When finished, run fingers over shaved area to find any oversights.

MOISTURIZE
Rinse and clean shaved area with cold water to close the pores. Gently pat dry. For extremely sensitive skin, massage 1 drop of ShaveGuard over skin after shaving. ShaveGuard and RazorGuard together will hydrate and protect your skin all day long.
